Links Studios Community Recording Studio
Canning Town, East London
Links Studios converts a defunct Victorian Morgue into a professional-standard community recording studio with money from the Rolling Stones. The building was opened on 3 August by Mr Ronnie Wood!
In a strong effort to commit to the re-use of existing buildings, solid brick walls – half a meter thick – originally designed for refrigeration, are now re-used to absorb sound.
The rejuvenated Studios now host creative workshops that foster mental wellbeing, as well as skills courses and formal study programs leading to qualifications in music technology and sound engineering.
As community enterprises get back on their feet post lock-down, the Studios have begun hosting a spectrum of activities for young people. At one end, open access workshops are available free-of-charge where young people can explore their creativity and celebrate their heritage through performing, podcasting, music production, sound engineering and more. There is a strong body of evidence which shows that this sort of activity is invaluable to mental health, resilience and tackling serious social issues such as youth violence and criminality.
